Frequently asked questions
What is the reverse charge mechanism?
The reverse charge mechanism shifts VAT liability from the seller to the buyer for cross-border B2B transactions within the EU. When you sell services to a VAT-registered business in another EU country, you issue the invoice without VAT and the buyer accounts for the VAT in their own country. This is governed by Article 196 of EU Directive 2006/112/EC. Both parties must have valid EU VAT IDs.
What is an intra-community supply?
An intra-community supply is the sale of goods between VAT-registered businesses in different EU member states. These supplies are exempt from VAT in the country of origin per Article 138 of EU Directive 2006/112/EC. The buyer pays VAT in their own country through an acquisition tax. Both seller and buyer must have valid EU VAT IDs, and the goods must physically move between member states.
Is this invoice legally valid?
The invoices generated by this tool contain all standard fields needed for business invoicing, including EU VAT requirements: business details, VAT IDs, sequential invoice number, date, itemized charges with per-line VAT rates, and VAT summary. While this format meets common EU invoicing requirements under Directive 2006/112/EC, specific countries may have additional requirements. Consult your accountant for your specific situation.
Where is my invoice data stored?
All data stays in your browser. Nothing is sent to any server. The PDF is generated entirely on your device using client-side JavaScript. Your saved business profile and invoice drafts are stored in your browser local storage only. The invoice number auto-increments using local storage as well.
Can I save my business details for reuse?
Yes. Fill in your business name, address, email, and VAT ID, then click Save as default above the form. Next time you open the invoice generator, your business details and logo will be pre-filled automatically. Click Clear to remove the saved profile. You can also save complete invoices as named drafts to load and reuse later.
Which countries are supported for VAT invoicing?
The tool supports 30 countries with pre-loaded VAT rates: all 27 EU member states plus the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Norway. Each country includes standard and reduced VAT rates sourced from official tax authorities (2025 data). You can also use "None" for simple invoicing without country-specific VAT rates.
